About the opportunity:

As the leader of the Maintenance Team the Maintenance Manager is accountable for promoting excellence in all maintenance activities provided in the plant’s operation through leadership and development of staff, developing business plans and methods, and planning/coordinating activities for plant of standard operation and/or small volume.


The attributes we are looking for:

  • Manage operations of the department by coordinating, planning, setting priorities, and following-up on maintenance activities to facilitate optimum plant performance, including labour/resources/shift requirements. Ensure that all relevant activities are conducted in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements and good business standards. Problem-solve and act as primary decision maker in department issues, including on Facility, Emergency Response, Project Start Up, Engineering (as built design vs. theoretical).
  • Provide leadership to improve health and safety performance by being a role model in safety and demonstrating due diligence through applying the corporate health & safety program elements. These focus on incident prevention through hazard identification, implementing necessary controls, training, education, and audits. Where necessary, take corrective action to address unsafe situations and employee behaviours, uphold Parmalat’s cardinal and other safety rules and procedures, and communicate with appropriate resources to address any hazardous conditions or unsafe employee conduct.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to staff by hiring, reviewing performance and providing feedback, determining training and development needs, and providing coaching and work direction. Develop plans and measurements to ensure that improved competencies of mechanical and electrical personnel are established and maintained against standards and future maintenance requirements.
  • Develop business plans to resolve maintenance and production-related issues based on business knowledge and, where necessary, seek appropriate approvals to implement solutions within time and budgetary constraints. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for improvement in costs, quality, customer service, and plant operations. Identify and/or provide input on appropriate technology, equipment and methodology used in the operation, or having an opportunity to improve operating results or costs.
  • Supervise and ensure contractors adhere to facility procedures and achieve contractual requirements, including equipment installations, modifications and maintenance as required on weekends or off-production periods
  • Manage the department’s budget by controlling, monitoring and justifying expenditures versus plan and manage accordingly.
  • Participate in Engineering Design by reviewing installation elements and recommending changes when appropriate or timing to complete installation of items for electrical and mechanical redesign of a system.
  • Manage capital projects, as assigned by Engineering, which includes all aspects from RFA development, design, budget control, site management, vendor selection, qualification, and training.
  • Manage inventory utilizing SAP.


What you will bring:

  • University degree in Engineering and/or trade certificate such as Millwright or Electrician)
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a leadership position (maintenance and project engineering, with production experience an asset)
  • Manufacturing experience within food-related processing and high-speed packaging systems
  • Knowledge of maintenance systems, mechanical & process engineering, electrical, instrumentation, PLC, and SCADA Controls. Ability to effectively operate AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of sanitation requirements, as well as Dairy industry/related manufacturing knowledge
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions to business challenges. Ability to apply best practices in operations management: Asset effectiveness, reduction in cycle times, TPM, TSM, flexibility of the workforce, etc.
  • Strong planning, analytical, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Change management skills, conflict resolution skills
  • Sound negotiation skills as well as financial and budgetary skills.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of all regulatory codes (building, ISO, safety, fire, CFIA, electrical, TSSA, etc.)
  • Proficient with standard office computer technology such as Lotus Notes, and Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), as well as business systems such as SAP
